a gm and chrysler into bankruptcy and sold chrysler to italians who were going to build jeeps and china. mitt romney will fight for every american job. gerri: and the left out swinging today claiming the ad is inaccurate, including joe biden who called it flagrantly dishonest. my next guest says romney has it right. here to explain, associate fellow for the national legal and policy center. great to have you back. always a pasure to have you on the show. this all came out of a report in bloomberg. let me read you what the road and read your response. european sales, the ceos, sergio marchini, considering building chrysler models in italy, including jeeps, for export to north america. now, is that true or is that false? >> that is absolutely true, and prior to that there was a bloomberg report that did say that the yacht was going to be building jeeps in china, possibly old jeeps, so that is where the governor romney got that information. now, there was one slight inaccuracies under the romney and where he said the obama administration sold chrysler to the italians. he didn't. he gave it
-out will lead chrysler to shift jobs from jeep plant here to china. >> everybody knows it's not true. the car companies themselves have told governor romney to knock it off. >> romney spokeswoman stood behind the ad charging, "his mismanagement of the process exposed taxpayers to $25 billion loss." companies are expanding production overseas. woman at the president's first event ripped romney in the opening prayer and suggested mr. obama has god on his side. >> a time when 47% of our population we're not surgically excised out of the heart of the country because they were retired or sick or poor. stand tall, mr. president. god is with you. we are with you. >> asked how the president is feeling, david axelrod just told reporters here he has never seen mr. obama more accelerated, adding right now the stump speech is coming from the president's loins. bret? >> bret: from his loins? okay. ed, thank you. >> yes. >> bret: okay. stocks ended the week on a down note. the dow lost 139.5. the s&p 500 dropped 13. the nasdaq fell 38. mitt romney has begun his final push hitting as many of the major tossu
any idea what was happening. all of us in the auto industry were looking at gm and chrysler. we sought to companies on the verge of failure that were going to take down the entire supplier industry. we also saw an industry that had to be restructured. bill ford is my hero. he fired in self. they put forward in a good place, so they did not have to be recued. they laid out a map for what had to be done, and everybody had to sacrifice. neil: and the end justifies it because things are back. and is starting with president bush. i'm not criticizing, but it did not lead to a slippery slope. once again, the difference between this was, this was not a bailout. a bailout is when you give money to the existing guys. restructurining. the key thing that obama did -- neil: the, the bankruptcy and restructuring. >> but the restructuring was driven by the president's team. a bankruptcy court would never have done that by itself, and it is the reason i don't like the mitt romney passive approach, just turn it over to the courts. it wld not have moved fast enough. it would not have taken the action th
to ford's lackluster performance, chrysler up 10%. was it just an easier comp or are they crushing it? >> you know, chrysler is just unbelievable. they have, we had a forecast of 120,000 units. they did 126,000 units. they're getting terrific help from vehicles like the dodge dart, the small compact sedan they didn't really have in the market before. so, they're getting incremental volume. vehicles like the dodge caravan is doing really well for them also. the jeep grand cherokee. so they're getting help from both cars and their trucks. that really wasn't going on last year. melissa: yeah. rebecca, thanks so much for that. >> thank you. cheers. lori: what a nice of her to take time for us today. she's the best. take michael angelo ceiling frescoes sistine chapel turns 500. melissa: amazing. lori: comes a warning from the vatican is may eventually limit visit to one of the most celebrated wonders of the western civilization. with he can ins craned upward nearly five million visitors enter it each year. in the summer as many as 20,000 enter each day. with all the people comes sweat, dus
obama chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. >> i'm mitt romney and i approve this for a minute. >> forget for a moment that general motors and chrysler have decried this ad as false or misleading but in the ad governor romney says he has a plan for the auto industry. i'm curious what that is and why we haven't heard much about it until now until a week before the election. >> as ad itself says, lee iacocca and major executives support governor romney, and i'd point out people who were on the obama economic council are supporting mitt romney because he does have a plan on day one to turn this country around in terms of jobs. with the auto economy and everything else, you need to put people back to work, and on day one he's going to get the energy economy going and allow us to have the keystone pipeline open up, be able to drill offshore in my home state of virginia so we can get those good jobs going, and then he is going to, you know, increase economic opportunity for everybody, so that's why he's having so many people, even people on the president's own econo
or toyota in america? it is not like the auto industry was. >> not at all. >> it is not clear gm or chrysler would not be saved. airlines go through bankruptcy as a fly there is a high probability they would still exist to be scaled down. >> we lose manufacturing jobs. >> politicians love that like a fetish making phoenix to drop by your foot to is more a valuable than services. the mayor can economy is service based. they are devoted to make things you cannot necessarily say. john: that is not real. but a dollar earned and services is not less by a bold and manufacturing. it is not true. manufacturing is doing well. it has increased but the politicians don't get it. >> they don't say it. it is big in the swing states. politically. how bad economics the government got you to replace my beach house. with just a few dabs, it's clically proven to seal out more food particles so you're more comfortable and confident while you eat. so it's not about keeping my dentures in, it's about keeping the food particles out. [ charlie ] try zinc free super poligrip. john: years ago i decided to build a be
chrysler is going to move from jeep jobs from here to china. romney is firing back saying the way the president has managed the bailout has a failure. it's exposed taxpayers to a $25 billion loss and these companies are expanding production overseas. that's from the romney camp. they believe this could be lead to jobs being shipped overseas and they believe the ad is accurate. they believe what romney is trying do is save ohio because if he can't ring ohio, they are convinced the president will be re-elected. >> most of the analysts agree with that. four days to go, what's the mood inside the president's campaign? >> it's interesting. he unveiled a slightly new stump speech where he was fiery, and he was defiant saying if he had a second term he's not going to give into republicans on cutting taxes for the rich, major spending reductions either. take a look how he framed it. >> i am a long ways away from giving up on this fight! i got a lot of fight left in me. i don't get tired. i don't grow weary. i hope you aren't tired either, ohio. i hope you aren't tired either. >> now, as t
with the automotive company a tax-free zone in china which means they can -- chrysler could set up shop. basically be part of that tax-free area, and so that third advantage is a big tax advantage. neil: but think about what your saying. all makes perfect business sense, but the president in all of these debates with mitt romney has been saying you want to ship these jobs of the china. here we have bailed out of th company's who we were told, you get this money, save american jobs. we literally are, after all of that, shipping those jobs to china. maybe the right and apparent big macro reasons, but to belittle mitt romney and to say that that is what you're all about, this isn't about casting aspersions on democrats or republicans. if it was a potential i think people would have said, no wway in hell. that's what's happening. >> it's a classic example. with all due respect, president obamai obviously doesn't understand how our multinational company works. there is a board of directors, executives. they are responsible to shareholders to make wise decisions on how to run the operatiin. in fact, if
with long-haul trucks. chrysler has announced they are coming out with a pickup truck. we do have some fords on the road today. if you look at europe, there are 52 makes and models of natural gas vehicles. liz: is this a chicken and egg thing? >> right. right. about 250 filling stations in california. [talking over each other] david: we actually have a couple here in new york. i got into a cab a week ago. he claimed to be one of the very few. i think you can count them on one hand. he has one filling station in southern manhattan and one in northern manhattan. there is, you will have to build out. you talked about natural gas infrastructure for homes, it is true, it exists. you do not have one for cars and trucks. it will cost billions. >> right. by that ended the year, every 250 miles, not talking about heavy-duty trucks, every 250 miles there will be a truck stop. you mentioned our friends out pilate filled the natural gas truck stops. it is not enough? no, of course not. more will be needed. liz: a lot of these gas stations do not have electricity so they cannot extract the gasoline. >> r
romney's campaign put out in which he suggests chrysler has sold jeeps to the italians and now want to start selling in china. the obama administration says, whoa, we're not moving jobs to china, governor romney's saying, yes, but for every job created in china, that's a job not created here in the united states. president obama firmly on this tack of governor romney has got a big problem in ohio with voters here. here's what he said. >> i understand that governor romney's had a tough time here in ohio because he was against saving the auto industry, and it's hard to run away from that position when you're on videotape saying the words let detroit go bankrupt. [cheers and applause] but i know, you know, we're close to an election. but this isn't a game. >> reporter: you know, one thing to consider when we're looking at voters here in ohio going forward between now and tuesday is the evangelical vote. i talked to raffle -- ralph reid who said in 2008 evangelicals made up 30% of the vote here in ohio, 340,000 of them stayed home. he says if we can get a good number of those evangelica
